Data security is one of the hardest problems in cybersecurity, and Stan had seen the pattern across his career. Most data security tools produce a flood of false positives that consume security team bandwidth. The quantity of data fintech companies handle, combined with the uneven quality of solutions on the market, makes it operationally difficult to keep up.
For EarnIn specifically, the requirement was efficiency at scale. The team needed low false positive rates, classification accurate enough to act on without manual review, and a platform that could scale alongside the business as customer volume grew.
"Data security is one of the hardest challenges in the cybersecurity industry, a lot of it because of the number of false positives and the amount of data that most companies have to manage through," Stan said. "In my career, we've worked with lots of different types of data security companies, and that is one of the hardest problems we have to solve for."
EarnIn evaluated Teleskope alongside several other solutions. Teleskope was selected for the combination of classification accuracy, deployment flexibility, and the close working relationship with the Teleskope product team.
"One of the key reasons we selected Teleskope is that Teleskope understands the specific needs of its customer," Stan said. "They hear us out, understand what's unique to our environment, what challenges we're looking to solve for, and implement those solutions for us so that we don't have to handle those."
Deployment was fast. EarnIn chose the deployment model that fit its specific compliance and regulatory requirements, which gave the security team direct control over where data resides, how it moves within their environment, and how alerts are handled. Where EarnIn needed integrations that didn't exist out of the box, the Teleskope team built them with quick turnaround.
Once in place, Teleskope delivered immediate visibility into where sensitive data lives across EarnIn's environment and what kind of data is in each location. From there, the security team turned on Teleskope's policy builder to govern how detected risks are remediated.
The policy builder is where Stan's team gets the operational leverage. They can choose between fully automated remediation and routing edge cases to the data owner for a business decision. Either way, the security team is out of the routine loop. Employees engage directly with the solution and resolve issues when that's the right action. The security team focuses on the threats and risks that need human judgment.
"The classification engine is one of the best in the market," Stan said. "It gives us high detection rates and accuracy rates, which is something we do not commonly find in other solutions. On top of that, the auto-remediation capabilities allow our business to decide what they need to do with it, governed by the policy builder."
With Teleskope as the classification and remediation layer, EarnIn's security team stays focused on the threats and risks that need human attention, while the platform handles routine data security work in the background.
The bigger shift is operational. By taking the security organization out of routine remediation flows and giving the business the tools to make policy-governed decisions on its own data, Teleskope removed a layer of friction that traditionally sits between data security teams and the rest of the business.
"Teleskope is a data security platform that gives its customers the ability to scale, understand where their most sensitive data is, and manage data-related risks in the most efficient and effective way possible." — Stan, CISO at EarnIn
